X4-Tropic Virus Also known as T-tropic virus. A strain of HIV that uses the chemokine receptor CXCR4 as a co-receptor to bind to and infect human immune cells. Although some HIV-1 strains are X4 tropic from the beginning of infection, it is more common for the virus to switch to using the CXCR4 co-receptor as the disease progresses.
