The Danube river near Schloegen, Upper Austria
SOURCE: Osterreich Werbung/Popp G., courtesy of Austrian National Tourist Office, used with permission.
Danube carved a deep, winding valley into the Upper Austria countryside.
Europe’s largest river is a paradise for all hikers, an idyllic, solitary and varied hiking territory with stunning views, forbidding fortresses and legendary ruins guarding the river.
Sleepy villages, such as Schloegen offer neaby accommodation to tourists.
