The Otztal alpine valley in Tyrol, dissected by the Oetztaler Ache river, separates the Stubai Alps in the east from the Oetztal Alps in the west.

High altitude walking, hiking, mountaineering, rock climbing, nordic walking and mountain biking in high glacier areas attract many tourists, as do the ski resorts and spas in the area.
